Wow! This was taken from Ester Dome Road in Fairbanks Alaska at about 1am on the 16th of September, 2005! Due to a particularly wicked CME interacting with our magnetosphere (with the IMF in perfect array), this is what occured! This picture was not touched up, save for a tad in contrast/brightness; you can see the stars are the normal color (white). Otherwise, this is exactly what I saw! Between the clouds reflecting the light from the city of Fairbanks, and the blues, purples, yellows, greens or oranges from the Aurorae, this was the most heart-stopping moment i've had in Fairbanks so far (which, it turns out, is saying alot!) I'll be developing some new pics soon of the event two nights ago! They just keep getting better! I've never seen so much color in one display! These Lights are over 70 miles above the surface of the earth!

That's awesome! That's one colorful aurora.
I wish I can see those down in LA. I heard about that story, and they said that it could even be seen in california. Guess the damned light pollution washed it out :(

I've been enjoying your photos of the Fairbanks area for a couple of years on the WeatherUnderground site. I lived in Fairbanks many years ago and would love to go back to visit, but I'm unable to travel. Your photos and vivid descriptions take me back. You're very talented and should do a book. I'll buy it! Thank you for taking me on vacation to Fairbanks.
